| "That
Sounds Like It Belongs in a Movie."
How many songwriters hear that every day? If the director or producer of the movie is speaking, then the comment can lead somewhere. But, if someone in the record industry says it, there could be many reasons: 1) He or she doesn't know what to do with the song so they assign it to a field they have nothing do to with ... sort of like when you don't know what to do with a piece of paper you're filing, so you put it in pending. 2) The person really doesn't think the song has a chance of making it in the commercial marketplace, but he doesn't want to hurt your feelings . . . sort of like telling someone his blind date is really nice and plays the piano by ear. 3) The person recognizes qualities in the song in common with other well-known movie theme songs.
